Our Australian summer may be officially drawing to a close but thankfully our friends at Netflix USA have a selection of great new titles to ease our pain. Let’s discover what’s new on Netflix this March!

For Australians (or non-USA residents really) that want to access the US version of Netflix, which has if not more content, then at least different content than the local version, the best way to do that is described in our updated guide here. Sure, there are other ways, cheaper ways, but none more reliable than what we have tested (and what we are actually using for ourselves). And sometimes the opposite is true, and if you're in the US, you might also want to check out some of the stuff in the Australian version that you won't get back home - our method works the other way too!

And while Netflix's library is out of sync geographically, there are still a lot of the same additions regardless of where you are, especially when it comes to Netflix originals. And so this article focuses on content that you won't get in Australia or hasn't been covered by our 'Netflix Australia: What's New in March' article, and so a quick glance of that article is recommended as well.

Television:

For those who like their TV series’ steeped in magic and fantasy, check out 'The Order'. Starring relative newcomers Jake Manley and Sarah Grey, this storyline centres around a college student who seeks to avenge the death of his mother. After pledging a secret order, he lands in a war between werewolves and practitioners of dark magic. Early buzz is positive so check it out from March 7.

Still from After Life

And don’t miss the new comedy series, 'After Life', starring British writer and comedian Ricky Gervais (The Office). After Tony's wife dies unexpectedly, his nice-guy persona is altered into an impulsive, devil-may-care attitude taking his old world by storm. Catch it from March 8.

Movies, Documentaries:

Perhaps the most highly anticipated addition to Netflix’s March line up is 'Triple Frontier'. The film follows five former Special Forces operatives who reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. It boasts an enviable cast including Ben Affleck ('Gone Girl'), Charlie Hunnam ('Sons of Anarchy') and Pedro Pascal ('Narcos').

Netflix Original 'The Highwaymen' comes to the streamer this March. The film stars Hollywood royalty Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as a pair of police officers who come out of retirement to catch the infamous outlaws Bonnie & Clyde. Catch it from March 29.

Still from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

There are also some terrific films to revisit this month – or perhaps you’re discovering them for the first time. Let’s start with a movie that famed film critic Roger Ebert once described as, “the most exhilarating martial arts movie.” Yes, 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' was a huge hit when it was released at the turn of the century and it went on to win 4 Oscars. Starring Yun-Fat Chow and Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians), you can catch this sweeping saga from March 1.

'The Hurt Locker' was released almost a decade later and was similarly widely acclaimed. A tense drama set during the Iraq war, Jeremy Renner (American Hustle) plays a Sergeant charged with disarming bombs. The film won 6 awards at the 2010 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow – she remains the only woman to win the coveted award.

Also, check out doco 'The Legend of Cocaine Island'. Based on the story of a family man who discovers the legend of a $2 million stash of cocaine buried on an island in the Caribbean, it received great reviews when it debuted at Tribeca Film Festival in 2018.

And if you’re keen to snuggle up to a special lady this March, be sure to choose 'The Notebook' as your date film of choice. Starring Ryan Gosling (La La Land) and Rachel McAdams (South Paw), it’s a guaranteed winner for romance!

Leaving Netflix:

Nothing lasts forever so be sure to check out these titles before they leave Netflix this month. We recommend taking a last look at 1980s cinema classics including 'Ghostbusters' (and 'Ghostbusters 2') and director John Hughes’ seminal 'The Breakfast Club'. This love letter to teen angst is worth it for the soundtrack alone.

An exciting March awaits for Netflix subscribers (and for those in Australia with a good VPN)!
