Netflix USA: What's New in July 2019

We're nearly at a time when the weather over on the other side of the Pacific is the polar opposite of what it is here, but we are both enjoying a school holiday, meaning that it's more important than ever for the U.S. version of Netflix to release some goodies to entertain us (and the kids).

For Australians (or non USA residents really) that want to access the US version of Netflix, which has if not more content, then at least different content than the local version, the best way to do that is described in our updated guide here. Sure, there are other ways, cheaper ways, but none more reliable than what we have tested (and what we are actually using for ourselves). And sometimes the opposite is true, and if you're in the US, you might also want to check out some of the stuff in the Australian version that you won't get back home (which this month includes TV shows like 'Suits' season 8, and movies like 'Last Action Hero', and 'Magic Mike') - our method works the other way too!

And while Netflix's library is out of sync geographically, there are still a lot of the same additions regardless of where you are, especially when it comes to Netflix originals. And so this article focuses on content that you won't get in Australia or hasn't been covered by our 'Netflix Australia: What's New in July' article (and also some stuff already covered but so good that they deserve a second mention), and so a quick glance of that article is recommended as well.

Television:

Overseas licensing rights can cause some ironic results on the U.S. version of Netflix when it comes to Australian content. This is why you won't be able to watch 'Yummy Mummies' season 2 (July 3) and 'Wentworth' season 7 (July 31) on our local version of Netflix, as they're owned by Channel 7 and Foxtel respectively.

While the fourth season of 'Queer Eye' is available in Australia, I didn't talk about it in the Australian preview article, so I'm talking about it here. Catch up with the Fab Five (loved them in Taylor Swift's new music video) as they expertly style those who are in real need for some fashion advice. Check out the new season on July 19.

Movies, Documentaries:

Checking out the movies that won't be on the Australian version of Netflix, one major blockbuster from Disney stands out. 'Mary Poppins Returns' is a delightful musical sequel to the (still superior) original, with some fantastic new songs and some great cameos (plus a strong performance by Emily Blunt). Stream it starting July 9.

'The Accountant of Auschwitz' (July 1) details the trial of Oskar Gröning, who is one of the last surviving members of the SS to have served at Auschwitz (and if his name sounds familiar, it's because he's been interviewed in several documentaries on the Holocaust previously - all before he was eventually charged for having been an accessory to murder).

Classics arriving on Netflix include 'Taxi Driver' ("You talkin' to me?") and 'Road House' (Peter Griffin: "Road House").

Leaving Netflix:

Lots of content will also be leaving the U.S. version of Netflix throughout July. You still have some time to catch these great movies and TV shows, including several franchises of the comedy variety ('Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery', and 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me'), the sci-fi virtual world ('The Matrix', 'The Matrix Reloaded', and 'The Matrix Revolutions'), and adventures featuring the undead ('The Mummy', 'The Mummy Returns', and 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor') - all leaving on July 1.

Critically acclaimed movies such as 'Pan’s Labyrinth' (July 1) and 'Lion' (July 9) are also leaving, along with TV shows like the complete series of 'Pretty Little Liars' (July 27).

------

That's July on the U.S. version of Netflix - hope you find something you love!
