Stan: What's New For November 5 - 11, 2019

It's time again to take a look at what has just been added to Stan's library.

Television:

A modern Western starring the ageless Kevin Costner has arrived in the form of the first two seasons of Yellowstone. The series is a typical example of this latter stage of the Golden Age of Television - well-rated and received, but not particularly popular because there are just too many damn good shows.

A fourth season of Scorpion is also available.

Movies, Documentaries:

If you have a Netflix subscription, you've probably already seen All The Money in The World. For those that haven't, this film, which made multiple headlines for all the wrong reasons (the re-casting of Kevin Spacey with the - sorry to use the word again - ageless Christopher Plummer, and the subsequent problems with pay equality when it turned out Mark Wahlberg was paid a lot more than the $1,000 given the Michelle Williams for the reshoot). It's a fine film, and you wouldn't notice the reshoot at all (and in fact, Christopher Plummer seems a better choice than the not very old enough Kevin Spacey, for the role of J. Paul Getty), so don't be put off by the headlines, is what I'm saying.

Uplifting film Wonder is also a must-watch if you don't mind shedding a few tears here and there, while a million dollars can't even buy you a house these days in most Sydney/Melbourne suburbs, but it could have bought you a night with Demi Moore in Indecent Proposal. Spoiler alert: not a great idea to sell your wife for one night for a million dollars, and certainly not to a handsome gent like Robert Redford in his day, if you still want to stay married!

There's double the Angelina Jolie goodness in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, while if you like big explosions, cuts every 2 seconds and fighting CGI robots, and are not easily offended by poor filmmaking, then Transformers, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon should keep you occupied.

The opposite of a Transformer movie might be in the form of the Spanish classic The Sea Inside - I know which film I'd rather watch if given a choice!
