Teenage witches, ex-soldier's new battle, and what happens in the bunker stays in the bunker. These are just some of the highlights this week. Read on to find out more.
It would be churlish not to appreciate the arrival of the complete series of Sabrina The Teenage Witch (the original '90s series), especially if you need a light and funny sitcom to binge.
There is also another new series in the form of the first two seasons of Family Law.
Season 3 of Godfather of Harlem premiered this week as well, with new episodes arriving weekly.
Stan's original film Transfusion stars Aussie superstar Sam Worthington, all about an ex-soldier's new battle against the criminal underworld in an effort to save his son.
One of the more interesting film genres of the last decade has been the re-invented horror genre, where horror moves beyond gore and jump scares, and adds other elements such as sci-fi and even social critiques. 10 Cloverfield Lane is one of the earlier examples where the psychological horror is greater than any monster or serial killer in your typical horror film, and it adds an element of "potential" sci-fi as well (I say "potential", because it really depends on who you believe is telling the truth). If you do believe the sci-fi backstory being told by one of the film's main characters, then it works as a contained, low-budget sci-fi film (hence the "Cloverfield" title, suggesting it to be in the same universe as that "found footage" sci-fi monster film).
Passengers, on the other hand, is almost the antithesis of "10 Cloverfield Lane" - a very much big budget, unambiguous sci-fi actioner. Critics savaged this film, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable, even if one of the "protagonist's" actions does leave a bad taste in your mouth if you really think about what been done.
